Highland Red Deer in Winter - a case of recycling and snippeteering

Hello Everyone,

Ah, the best laid plans ... I'd intended posting this early this morning but one thing led to another and here I am still chasing my tail mid afternoon!!! Hazel, over at Crafty Halzelnut's Challenge 158 asked us to upcycle, re-purpose or use a freebie this week - tick! And Di at Pixie's Snippets Playground - Week 106 asks no more of us than we use up a snippet or two on each project - tick!
One of the cards we received this Christmas, from the EM's one-time secretary, featured a gorgeous photograph of stags in winter by Scottish photographer Ronald Weir which I've trimmed down to a size to suit the 4.5" square card base I've used here.

Materials used:

  • white square card base
  • the photograph of stags, recycled
  • Stickles, Xmas Red - added to the stag's nose
  • red holographic card for matting - from the snippet box
  • Kanban foiled background card Cool Snowflakes
  • Poppy ProMarker for edging
  • Greetings! stamp from Sheena's A Little Bit Festive Christmas is Coming stamp set
  • VersaMark ink pad
  • Crimson Heat it Up embossing powder

I was in a hurry - didn't want to miss Hazel's challenge this week - and this should have been no more than a ten-minute creation. You'd think, wouldn't you? Well, it would if it didn't take me forever to decide on what other materials to use for the oh so simple layout I had in mind. Soooo, you can add another 45 minutes on to that 10 minutes, at least, while I rummaged and dithered ... just as well my livelihood does not depend on me knocking out cards ten to the dozen in super swift time ... it's so not going to happen! Happily, once the decisions had been made it really did not take long to put the card together :)

The EM has made one of his lovely low-sugar fruit cakes, visitors expected tomorrow, and the smell is wafting it's lovely way up into the craft room. To me it's the smell of childhood. For many years my mother had a home bakery shop ... she made the most deliciously scrumptious cakes, buns, breads and pies.  How I remained a skinny child I'll never know :)

And really good news! Our ancient yet beloved car, Picky, has been returned to us with a new, and horribly expensive but we won't dwell on that, clutch. Picky? She's a Picasso so what else could we call her :) So nice to have wheels again.

Okay, off to do something about dinner now.

Take care, keep warm, stay safe and happy crafting.

Hi Elizabeth this is lovely, you made me very hungry when talking about your mother's bakery shop, we used to have a breadshop where I lived when I was little and the smell oh my goodness LOL I used to always make my own bread but I use a breadmaker now as my hands weren't what they were, have a great weekend huggles Sue xxx

Glad that Picky is now well (despite the horrendous expense). Thanks for entering your lovely card for CHNC challenge 158- you could also enter this into my CHNC challenge extra for Januaryr - I'd love to see it there too. x

Wow, a super card Elizabeth! You upcycled that gorgeous image perfectly.

Don't laugh, I at first read the word car as cat - and thought a long lost cat called Picky had been found and returned to you. Then I thought, but why would a cat have a clutch - sigh, am sooooo daft at times :) Great to know you have wheels, we forget how good it is to have a car sometimes and it's only when they go wrong it's brought home to us.

And the baking tale brought back memories too - Saturday was my Mum's baking day - she was a fully trained and very good cook. I loved to help - and clean out the bowls :)

Hugs, Di xx

Brrrr-illiant upcycling Elizabeth. Glad you've got wheels again. Such a nuisance when you're without.

Love it, I'm all for recycling and the job you've done inside and out on this is fantastic. Thank you for joining us at CHNC.
