WOYWW 214

Hello Everyone,

Wednesday, again! It sort of sneaked up on me this week. I blame the glorious weather we are enjoying (enduring, some would say) ... it's so hot! And other distractions. Wimbledon, for example ... I lost the best part of week egging gently encouraging Andy Murray on to win :) Monday was spent down on the Mull of Galloway, at the southernmost tip of Scotland, hoping there would be a cool sea breeze - not a chance, it was just as hot there but beautiful nonetheless. So why am I telling you all this? It's because today's the day to publish a revealing snapshot of what is on my desk - for further information about this weekly phenomenon known as WOYWW, the brainchild of Julia at the Stamping Ground, just click here

And here is said snapshot.
Photographs - thousands of them! What you see on the desk is only a small portion of the whole - there are drawers full of them, a tin box or two, and a few albums as well. I've kind of sorted them out before, although I wasn't too precise about it, but after being rooted through several times they've got in a bit of a muddle again so time to bite the bullet. And I'm being ruthless - if I don't recognise the who, where, what, when and why of a pic, it's going in the bin ... unless it's very old and has potential to be used in a project some time. Ditto doubles - having a scanner means only one print is needed for posterity.

So that's my desk this week - boring really. Bet your desk is much more interesting :)

Have a wonderful day, whatever you are doing. As usual I'll be around to see as many of you as I can.

Take care and happy crafting,

Hi Elizabeth, Glad to hear you are having some summer weather. After my Mom passed I had all her pictures to go through, I gave the family back all the pictures she had of them. Then I came home and went through the stacks I have and did the same who, what and when. Many went into the trash, but I still have tons more.......isn't it always so??
Good luck on the photo clean out and sort.

Thank goodness for digital cameras. I used to have photgraphs everywhere, thousands of them. Still got a lot in albums but scanned lots of others in and binned the originals unless they were special :o)

Oh my word Elizabeth - how organised you are. I like the approach, guess that's another thing I need to tackle.

Grin, does this mean that all your stamps are now catalogued then? Don't even ask ME, it's like Canute trying to hold back the waves right now here :(

Have a lovely WOYWW and 'happy hopping'.

Hugs, Di xx

Now that's a lot of photos! But I have similar amounts too. I'm at present taking photos of old photos from my mums albums! I too was cheering Murray on and now the Ashes starts so I shall be listening to that as well! Take care Zo xx 65

Hi Elizabeth....we have just done exactly the same with all our photos and wow doesn't it feel good?
If neither Jo or I knew who was in the photos then they went and why did we ever take pictures of a giraffe peering over a fence? or a plane in the sky that is no bigger than a fly? :-)

Good to see someone tackling a great big job (sorting photos out). A long time ago, with my 'people' ones I cut them out (sort of cropped) and then made pages of collages and put them all in a ring binder. Not sure if that would be a way around some of them for you.
Anyway, good luck - and still enjoy that sunshine when you can - we don't get it often, let's enjoy!

Oh my, what a task you've taken on and it's one I too really need to do. I do hope there's one being saved of Flat Susan but then she is immortalised with her own blog.

Hi Elizabeth - I don't envy you scanning photos - make sure you do a back up often - I was halfway through scanning a friends old photos to do an album for her when my PC crashed - unsalvageable - had to re-do about 12 hours of work UGH!!! - Have a great week - Happy WOYWW - Mxx #89

Yes, takes ages, doesn't it? I currently have about 8 big bags of photos from my dad's. One of these fair days, when I have nothing else going on, (?????) then I shall sort, scan, etc. In the meantime, they sit in our bedroom filling space!!
Have a great week - Wimbledon was rather an exciting distraction wasn't it?!

Guess what, I've got to sort out the family photos that I brought back from Mum and Dads house this summer....I'm not looking forward to it. So I'm very impressed that you've done all that hard work!
And I was shouting so loudly for Andy Murray, I'm surprised you couldn't hear me! Lol

I went through boxes and envelopes full of old photos from Geoff's family, fortunately most of them were labelled up. Any that were of interest for family tree etc, I scanned at high quality for future use, then split the originals up around the family according to who they were of. I still have several envelopes to go through when I get time. I still have a large box of photos from my side of the family. It is a lesson to us to label our own photos for future generations to identify easily. Have fun with your sorting out. Thank you for your visit today. Fortunately, since a law was passed in the past couple of years, I now know that if the drains block up again, I ring Severn Trent Water and get them out to clear it. Beats paying Dynarod a small fortune. Good luck with your sorting. xx Maggie #10

Hi ELizabeth I have boxes of photos waiting to be sorted plus loads on the laptop. It really worries me at times that they remain unsorted - silly I guess but that's me. Anne x #50

You are one wise lady...so need to do this too...
I'm like you in that I have sort of done it before (maybe half of them) then muddled them up a bit mauling through them to create scrapbook pages.

Good luck with this huge task...you will be so pleased with yourself once finished.

Happy Belated WOYWW, Elizabeth! Work has got me running quite late this week! I think you are to be commended for getting this far with the photos!! My Mister is tackling that job (thank God) and I know it's a slog, but so worth it in the end. You have to be brutal when you are doing the sort! Good luck with it! Darnell #24
