WOYWW - Week 728 - The 14th Anniversary One

Hello Everyone

It's such a special week for What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday, the brainchild of of our Head Desker, Julia. I imagine when she posted the first WOYWW fourteen years she didn't foresee just how popular we would find the opportunity to be nosy and enjoy taking a peek at each others desks. But the fun hasn't stopped there - there's been the almost yearly crops where many of us got to actually meet other WOYWWers in person.

ATCs received from Wipso, Twiglet & LLJ today.

And there's the friendships made that have perhaps been unexpected but very much appreciated! Friends like the three lovely ladies who made and sent their fabulous 14th Anniversary ATCs pictured above - including me in the celebrations despite knowing that I'm not able to reciprocate this year.

I've peeked at Julia's post today and she puts into words the value of WOYWW so much better than I am able, especially for those of us who, like me, can only participate occasionally at the moment.

There's been no scrapping again this week. Mainly because I had to clear the decks to enable an electrician access to my room. He has put a source of power in Alan's scooter hut so the battery can be charged in situ and that necessitated boring a hole through the wall of the house into the wall of the hut. That battery weighs a ton so I'm glad I don't have to bring it into the house to be charged now!

Instead of scrapping I've taken up crochet again. I've realised that, as I was spending a lot of time sitting and chatting with Alan, I could be exercising my arthritic hands at the same time. It's just a big granny square like the one below.

Nothing complicated and no deadline either.

Here's the Silver pic of the week.
Not napping this time but chasing a red light, her new favourite game.

And finally a photo from the Saltcoats, the neighbouring town to Ardrossan.
That's my SIL 'walking on water'! There's an old neglected swimming pool, the wall of which makes for fun photos when the tide is in.

I planned a much shorter post to mark What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday's fourteenth anniversary but got a bit carried away. Hope you enjoyed my ramblings and I hope you all have a fabulous day/week celebrating.

Hugs to you all,
Elizabeth

Happy 14th WOYWW! It’s so lovely to see you on the list today and I’m always up for a bit of crochet and yarn, it’s a great way of using up stash! I loved the last pic, we get optical illusions like that on our beach as well. Glad you liked the ATC, couldn’t leave you out!

Ramblings? No! I love reading about everything that everyone does and is doing, it’s like a social history! That is such a fab pic of your SIL, like a postcard. I love a tidal swimming pool but am thinking when it was in use it must have been a bit perishing cold! Glad to hear about the battery/shed installation…I occasionally have to help unload the van on site and the transformer is a lump of electrical equipment that looks benign enough but I can barely lift it off the ground, batteries are extraordinarily heavy. The laughable thing about them is that people think they’re portable! Anyway, alls well that ends well. In Tenerife earlier this year we saw a lot of ‘tandem’ mobility scooters…are you riding up front??!! Hope you’re both enjoying the benefits of the scooter, even my little bird of a mother felt like a huge weight in a wheelchair, particularly as wheelchairs take some practice don’t they! My biggest take away this week is your ‘nothing complicated, no deadline’ sentence for the crochet. Brilliant idea and totally right…just what’s needed to make you feel productive whilst keeping A company too. Perfect.

Sweet kitty! Hope all went well with the electrician and I love a good rambling post so all good from my POV :)
Thanks for the reminder of the laser pointer. I have heard conflicting advice about it (on one had lots of cats adore them, on the other they can get frustrated cause they never can really "catch" it) but if yours loves it I wonder if it is worth a go for at least some of play time!
Will investigate!
Happy 14th Anniversary WOYWW

I'm late because I had to rest my typing hand. Nice to see you and Silver, Elizabeth.

I hope your battery is safe. Just yesterday I heard the battery from one of our new battery powered buses the city council is so proud of, caught fire overnight and torched the entire bus. I also learned that when a traditional rechargeable battery catches fire, it takes very little water to put it out. It can usually be dine with a fire extinguisher. With these new batteries, the heat has to be cooled slowly with water and it took 33,000 gallons of water to finally put the fire out.

Ironically, when I crochet or knit, my hand goes to sleep and I can't continue. I am surprised you can exercise your hand by crocheting. Surprising, but so glad it works for you.

Lovely photo of your SIL walking on water. And yes, I enjoyed your "ramblings" and your photos too. Happy 14th Anniversary from # 3.

Good that you can charge the scooter more easily. My Dad once got stranded because he hadn't charged his enough - fortunately he had gone to visit a friend and he was able to ring my brother. It was pre mobile phones! I love seeing your crochet work - I never did learn. Happy 14th WOYWW, hugs Chrisx

Hello Elizabeth. I've not been on in a while but couldn't miss today. I have been doing quite a lot of crochet. Making the Kings Coronation ( CAL ) blanket. Had to stop for a while, but not much left to do. Take care Annex 20

Silver looks so cute patting the red light. I haven’t crocheted for ages. Scooters are such heavy things aren’t they. I saw a man in Tesco riding one of those Harley Davidson scooters. I would have liked one of those, but they don’t go in the boot🤣🤣. Angela no 25
