Dog Themed Card for a Four-Year Old

Hello Everyone

I hope your week is going well. I have the card I made for my great-grandson's 4th birthday to share today.

Callum loves dogs so I thought I'd make him a card featuring four dogs - he'll enjoy counting them. And, again, I've used one of the Gelli plate prints I have in stock for the background.

Supplies used:

- white scalloped edge base card
- dark green cardstock for matting, brown cardstock for the dog dies, gold card for the sun & green glitter card for the number 4
- the Gelli plate print trimmed to create the band
- dies - Dovecraft dog & paw print; X-cut dinky Dachshund dog & Sun dies; number 4 die from Creative Dies

Inside is stamped with the greeting from the Creative Dies set and I've added a paw print in one corner.

I hope you are still enjoying these scheduled posts. I'll be back soon but I'm still enjoying my wee break for now.

What's On Your Workdesk - Week 476

Hello Deskers, Followers and All,

Wednesday again! It's been said before, and will no doubt be said many more times, but where did the last seven days go?! In fact, I almost forgot what day it is ... not entirely surprising at my great age ... so here for you, and our Head Desker, Julia, at the Stamping Ground, is what's on my desk today.
There's been a bit of stamping going on and a lot of scrapping. On an impulse, and perhaps a bit rash of me, I've signed up for the summer challenge on Mind The Scrap's Facebook group. I think I forget just how busy life is!!! The warm up began last evening so that's the first layout sitting on top of a stack of paper and the really useful box that's full of supplies beneath ... this last now seems to be a permanent fixture these days. On the left is new stamps I've been testing. They are part of a mini haul from Monday's trip to The Range.
As you can see, there are more than a few unicorns. My great niece, Arihanna, loves unicorns and mermaids and I suspect flamingos too. The snowman and butterfly punch were a happy find in a charity shop. Seems that someone had handed in boxes of crafty stash and I had a fine old time riffling through it. Sadly, much of it wasn't my taste but I did like the quirky snowman and you can never have two many butterfly punches.

Only one book to share this week. I'm still listening to Grisham's 'The Litigators' - actually it's re-listening to it while I craft away - but my bedtime listening is Secrets of A Family Album by Isla Dewar.

I can't say I'm really enjoying this novel. It's not her best. The main characters, Lily and her mother Mattie, are not very likable and I find myself not caring what happens to them. Also, there's far too much emphasis on what the characters are wearing, what cosmetics they use, etc. Not to mention several paragraphs wasted listing ALL the gifts each character, that gathered at Lily's parents home for Christmas, received! Paragraphs that I'd skip if I was actually reading the book.

That's me done for this week. I'm off to check a few desks before lunch.

Take care everyone and have a great week ahead.

Sunday Snippet Cards - A Kaleidoscope of Butterflies

Evening Everyone,

It's been a lovely autumnal day here ... perfect for the day out at Portpatrick Harbour to celebrate DH's 79th birthday. For those of you who follow me on Facebook pop over to see photos taken today.

There was, though, a definite nip in the air so I think it's safe to say that summer is over. Not to worry, autumn here in Scotland is glorious and our summer hasn't been all that good ... not good enough to miss, that's for sure. And it does mean that I will be spending less time gardening and more time crafting. Now, that's got to be good because it will mean I can get back to posting more often on this much neglected blog ... starting with sharing this trio of snippets cards.

As you can see the design is similar in all of them and they all feature butterflies. The strips of card are leftovers from an earlier session when I played with the various colours in my Brusho collection. I layered them on to scraps of solid coloured card before adhering them to the face of the card blanks. The butterflies were cut from snippets of card using two of the new die sets bought recently from The Range.

Supplies used:

  • card blanks
  • leftover pieces of white card spattered with Brushos in a variety of colours, trimmed to create strips
  • scraps of card in green, yellow and pink for the layers under the Brusho strips to create the panels
  • snippets of card in green, aqua, yellow, turquoise and pink for the butterflies
  • butterfly dies - Xcut Dinky Die - Butterfly and Dovecraft Mini die - Layering Butterfly

I'd like to say that these made a huge dent in my scrap mountain but, sadly, they did not. I've been thinking of taking another approach to this problem, that is apart from tossing them all in the bin - I couldn't do that - and after watching a few YouTube videos on the subject I'm going to have a bash at making up card kits to have ready to work on at any time I have a free moment. I'm hoping the initial time taken to make up the kits will, in the end, be worth it. Grabbing a few kits to work on whilst watching TV of an evening would seem a good plan. And it also occurs to me that the youngsters in the family might like some to be creative with. It's worth a try. I'll let you know if it proves to be a successful approach - or not.

In the meantime, I'm submitting one of these cards to Pixie's Snippets Playground. I'm just not sure which one - decisions, decisions!

Hope you have all had a wonderful weekend and that the coming week is going to be a good one.

WOYWW 431

Morning Everyone ...

... it's still morning here but only just!

Sorry I had to miss WOYWW last week but my grandson was home from Shetland and he stayed with us on an overnight visit. It was lovely to see him and I wouldn't miss his visits for the world. It just means I don't go anywhere near the craft room while he's here but I've made up for it since so have lots to show you.
First up is the desk and there's a swarm of bees on it. They're made with a cute wee die I picked up at The Range yesterday - more of which later. So what you see is the materials I've picked out for the project: a pile of scraps in yellow and black and some white 3" square card bases. Also out is the small guillotine and and the Sapphire die-cutting machine - it's dinky size is just perfect for the job. At the back, in the glass dish, is a little pile of dies, also from yesterday's trip to The Range.
Seriously, I only went in to buy the pack of clear plastic bags but I couldn't resist adding some card blanks and ...
... when I spotted these tiny dies they just fell into my basket - nothing to do with me, you understand!
I also nipped into Dunelm Mill for more interfacing for another project I've been working on - don't you just hate it when you run out of stuff right in the middle of what you're doing?!?! It meant a mercy dash to the nearest store which, for me, is Kilmarnock. And, of course, I couldn't resist the polka dotted fabric, sigh! Fortunately, I have a plan and it will be used up fairly soon in the project that I'll be making at the quilting classes I go to - they're starting again next week.

And finally, here's the project that needed the interfacing. Twelve little fabric trays made for the ladies who will be attending my daughter's EPP (English Paper Piecing) workshop this Saturday. I'm hoping they will be just the thing for them to put their hexagons in while they are working on them.

It's only 24 days to the WOYWW Crop 2017 now. I'm so excited and looking forward to meeting up with the deskers who'll be there. Of course I'm in a dither as to what to pack in the tote. I'll forget something important I'm sure. Though I'm assured there's going to be a lot of chatting and not a lot of crafting. Whatever, it's sure to be fun.

So that's what's on my desk today. It's a wet, wet day, perfect for staying indoors and catching up with what's on your desk too.

Happy WOYWW to you and have a wonderful crafty week.
