Dragonfly Hello Card with a matching gift tag

Hello Everyone ...

... and a happy Sunday to you too!

It's Snippet Day - Week 55 - over at Pixie's Crafty Workshop and as it's a dreich and drizzly day here, it's a perfect excuse for making a card with some of the many bits and bobs I have lying around.

I'm aiming to make fewer cards this year - I want to concentrate more on scrapping - and those I do make will use as many snippets as possible in the process. And, additionally, those cards I do make will have to be 'thin' enough to pass through the Royal Mail's equivalent of the eye of a needle!!! So apart from a wee bit of dimension on the dragonfly's wings this card relies heavily on layers snippets of red and white patterned paper for interest.

Hope you can see the dimension on the wings better in this photo.

Stacking paper in this way is one of the techniques I've picked up from taking a couple of scrapbooking courses I took last year. All the pieces are edged with black distress ink.

Here you can see that I've carried over to the inside of the card.

And the back too.

And in a spirit of waste not, want not - here's the teeniest-weeniest scraps made into a matching gift tag.

Materials: white base card; small piece of Kraft card; scraps from Papermania's Happy Days paper pad, Daisy Bucket Designs (the polka dot design) and a piece leftover red/white boxy pattern (a magazine freebie); Denamidesign Dragonfly stamp; Wild Rose Studio Everyday Greetings stamp set; Black Memento ink pad; Tim Holtz DIs, Black Soot and Vintage Photo; red/white baker's twine; tiny black pearls for embellishment

I'm working on something quite different today - a wall-hanging that should have been completed before Christmas but had to be sidelined for more urgent cardmaking! I'm now trying to ensure it will be ready for Christmas 2013 :)

And, I'm really going to have do something about this blog's appearance - time to look forward to spring and summer :)

However, I'll take time out to drop in on the playground this afternoon to have a nosy around what some of you have been up to. In the meantime, I hope you are all having and enjoyable weekend.

Take care and happy crafting,

Beautiful Elizabeth - and great use of snippets (one for me to remember).

The Tuscany stamp (it also reminds me of there) came from the fabby little craft shop we went to with Julia and Jan - I must keep my eyes peeled in there for bargains next time!

I know just what you mean about the Paper Artsy stamps - I love what others do with them but wouldn't have a clue where to begin! I did snag another one (two actually, one for the Playground) but with a Christmas theme. Now that one I know I'll use and suspect you could be tempted too and will offer the other one but not just yet methinks!

Still not made your recipe of the other week - slap my wrists here, but it's on the list!

Enjoy your crafting today!

Hugs, Di xx

THe layers of patterned paper work a treat. Know what you mean about Royal Mail eye of needle - drives me nuts!

What a clever idea. Snippets must mean scraps in the US. Don't believe I've heard that term before other than when someone called me a little snippet when I as young, (LOL) so it's nice to learn a new meaning for it. This card is so cute and so clever. Wonderful way to use up you snippets. Thanks for stopping by my blog and the kind comment. Hope to see you back again. "Hugs"

Hi Elizabeth,

Your card looks great. I can see the dimension in the dragonfly quite well (even without my glasses on). My cards tend to be on the simple side also. Although I have collected some fun bits for that extra sparkle. I just bought some glimmer mist and can't wait to see what it does. I hope it's magic!!

Hugs,
Kay

I think they sent that needle over to canada to use too!!!

Inking the edges gives that feeling of matting and yet doesn't add the extra thickness.
I love that various layers and patterns you used and always love that you do the inside and the back of your card up as well!

I know what you mean about feeling like you want to do more scrapbooking.
Sometimes I feel like I will never catch up and get current on scrapbooking...although I don't post them on my blog, I still do make layouts...
I am going to start posting the travel layouts as they are not heavy on personal photos and one picture blurred on a 4 or 5 photo layout doesn't look too bad...teehee

Look forward to seeing your scrapbook posts and crafty hugs to you!

Wowser. What a gorgeous snippet card and gives the effect of being multi layered up even though wafer thin. Buttons are a no no too on cards as I have found much to my cost!. Hugs Mrs A.
