O is for Ornaments - an unusual colour combo card

Good afternoon folks,

We are still not suffering too much from snow. I think because Ayr is in a fairly sheltered bay the snow seems to be falling all around us but there is very little doing here - a few wee miserable snowflakes, that's all. However, it is freezing, -9 degrees this morning!

I have the next card in the Alphabet series - this time for the letter O, in this case O is for Ornaments.

I've chosen an unusual colour combo of red, pink and white and all because of serendipity. The satin ribbon sang to me when I popped into my local shop on Saturday - that gorgeous dusky pink colour did it for me - and then on Monday I discovered this design paper in my birthday goodies. All I had to do was give Tilda red & pink striped stockings and glitter her up a bit and she was perfect.

I teamed the design paper up with a piece of white card which I had embossed with the Snowflakes folder which Lisa kindly gave me - thanks Lisa, it's gorgeous. There's a red felt ornament from Papermania behind Tilda and another ornament embellishment from my stash. The Prima flowers got the glitter treatment too and a red flat-backed e-line pearl in the centre.

A Merry Christmas peel-off and a digi stamp from Sentiments 4 You complete the card. Really easy. I did go to town on the inside using up the leftover ribbon and embossed card.

I decorated the back in much the same way as usual so I won't bother to show you that.

I think this has got to be my favourite Tilda card so far even though I would never have thought the pink and red were a good colour combination!

I have completed another birthday card but I have to sort out the photographs before I can post it - I hope to do that later today.

Bye for now

Floral Birthday Card + Matching Bookmark

The day hasn't got any worse for us here in Ayr - in fact the sun struggled out for a wee while - so sorry for all of you who are suffering an abundance of the white stuff. I know a lot of you are either not getting to work or are suffering slippy roads to reach your workplace and that's grim. DH tells me that the long range forecast is not good and that this could keep on until 27th December. Of course, we do know how accurate the Met Office forecast is - not! But, as Littlejohn (The Mail) wrote, 'this will be global warming then'.

Enough of the weather, here's the birthday card I made for my Auntie Milly who will be 86 tomorrow.

Looks a bit wonky - don't know how I photographed it at that angle! The papers, pyramage, insert, etc., all came from My Craft Studio Professionals Floral Masterpieces - absolutely gorgeous traditional flowery papers, etc. For this one I used a lilac pearlescent card for matting, a Magnolia doily and lace trim, and an Anita lilac ribbon with silver trim for embellishment.

Apart from a fair bit of cutting out and lots of adhesive this was one of the easiest cards I've put together.  I used one of the sentiments from the 'Words for Every Occasion' featured in my Birthday Goodies post for the insert.

The bookmark is also included in the print-out from MCS and makes a nice wee extra to include with the card.

Just took a break from snooping through the WOYWWers desk to do this, will get back to it later this evening.

Bye for now,
Elizabeth

WOYWW - Week 78 or is it Week 77?

I'm confused and don't really know what week it is, Julia says Week 77 but by my calculations it's Week 78.
Whatever, another week gone in a blur! So much to do and so little time and here we are at another Wednesday and this is what my desk is like right now - haven't done a thing so far to make it look any better : (

This pic was taken at 8.30am this morning and the light was terrible but hopefully you can see enough of the detail. At the front is the makings of the next card in the Alphabet series. There's the base,Tilda, some embellishments, and a bright red felt ornament - as Rolf Harris would say, 'can you guess what it is yet?'

To the right is some bits and pieces for a birthday card I have to make today. Leaning against my chicken cupboard are some stamps already coloured ready to be used - just awaiting further inspiration!

Featuring also is my latest crafting acquisition, a can of hairspray. Now, I don't use hairspray in the normal way so this had to be a special buy. I'm told it is a good idea to spray it over a piece of work featuring Perfect Pearls. This apparently fixes it so it won't rub off - also on projects with chalk. Will try it out when I find the time to experiment with the Perfect Pearls - soon I hope : )

Last week I showed you the ribbon stand my DH made for me and I bet you thought that was all the ribbon I have. You would be wrong if you did - amongst many faults I have a fetish for ribbon and buy it by the yard/metre whenever I see something pretty that shouts to me, you know, 'buy me, buy meee'. So here's another means of storage which, this time, I devised:

When DH constructed my workstation he added this panel at the left side, affixed hooks for scissors, templates, etc., and I later constructed this ribbon holder thingy from a binder ring and some card off-cuts with slots cut into them to thread the ribbon through.  I try to keep the ribbons filed roughly by colour on these cards. If it ever gets to much for one ring I can always start another.

That's my workdesk today and for those of you wondering what WOYWW is all about please step over to Julia's blog, Stamping Ground - link at the top of this post, where you can find others like myself revealing theirs.

In the meantime, bye for now,
Elizabeth
