From disaster to recovery - teal flower border card

Hope you are having a good day, perhaps with a bit of sun even to brighten things up for you :)

There's a story of disaster behind this card. The original intention was to create a card for the current Less Is More Challenge. That is to create a one layer card with a coloured card blank ... not so difficult, surely? Teal cardstock seemed a good colour choice and the plan was to create a panel of white embossed flowers with a bit of a twist, i.e.to colour in the petals using a toning marker. This produces the effect of darkening the petals just a shade or so. All went well, the colouring worked and the panel looked good. Then disaster struck. I stamping the sentiment skew whiff ...grrr!!! That will teach me to use the thingamajig for stamping straight!

After my knee jerk reaction, i.e. tossing it in the bin, I had a think and it occurred to me that not all was lost. The panel at least could be rescued and used to decorate a white card base. Result, a nice little thank you card. That's paper string tied round the top - available for pennies from The Works in Ayr :)

Materials:

• 4" square white card base; teal smooth card (Papermill Direct); 
• Dawn Bibby Designs Flower & Leaf stamp set; VersaMark; Docrafts Papermania Seafoam White embossing powder; turquoise ProMarker - to colour in the flower petals; 
• Crafty Stamps Thank You stamp; Memories black ink pad; 
• teal paper string from stash

Not sure I'm up to having another attempt at the LIM challenge ... I think I know when I'm beaten :(

I'm not sure that this qualifies as a snippet card. After all, the flower panel did start off as part of a card made from a new sheet of card! So I won't be rushing over to Pixie's playground for fear of being expelled :) 

I find, to my surprise, I have a couple of birthday cards to make this month, one for a brother and the other for one of my granddaughters. Not sure why I'm surprised, after all these same birthdays are an annual event! 

I'd better be off and think about those cards then :)

The baby girl card completed.

Just though I'd share the completed baby girl card, as seen on my desk in this morning's WOYWW post.

When planning - I use the term loosely, it would be more apt to say when rummaging around looking for inspiration - I discovered I had two embossing folders that featured buttons and a length of ribbon that also featured ribbons ... I call that serendipitous :) So I used one for the backing and one to create a border on the topper. The little babygro, or 'onesy', was stamped on the topper and then stamped once more, coloured with ProMarkers, trimmed and, finally, 'decoupaged' to the topper. Not showing up at all in the photo is the touch of crystal Stickles on the baby's rattle ... you can just about see the little bunny is holding it. 

Just a tiny stamp in the corner of the inside finishes the card.

• Darice Buttons EF; Cuttlebug Just My Type EF Collecton, Button Border 
• Stamps - Special Occasion (the 'onesy' and a new baby), from Papercraft Magazine and All Occasion stamp set for A Baby Girl (no idea where this set came from) 
• ProMarkers - Baby Pink, Sandstone, Ice Grey 1
• Ink pads - Memento Tuxedo Black and London Fog, Colourbox Cat's Eye, Rouge 
• Docrafts Forever Friends Kraft Notes Collection button patterned ribbon 
• Stickles, Crystal 
• heart-shaped button and embroidery silk in toning shade from stash

Surprisingly, not one snippet, leftover or scrap went into the making of the card ... I must be slipping!

As I sit here tapping away on the keyboard the most delicious aroma is drifting up and around me. The EM is making one of his fruit cakes, low fat and low sugar, just for me ... how lucky am I :))

It's back to Julia's place now - there's more WOYWWing folk to visit and I have an hour or so before Pointless.  For those of you outside the UK who may not have seen Pointless, it's a game show, the point of which is to find the most obscure answer to gain as few points as possible in order to eventually win whatever money is up for grabs. The EM and I enjoy the challenge but we are absolutely pitiful if the questions is on sport, especially football!

Hello all you lovely WOYWWers, Followers and Fellow Bloggers

Another Wednesday means another opportunity to go desk hopping, courtesy of our head desk keeper and multi-tasker, Julia Dunnit, over at the Stamping Ground. I trust you are all desperate to reveal whatever state, messy or tidy, your desk/floor/dining or kitchen table/kitchen worktop, or even your Betsy, is :) Here's mine:

And it's covered in stuff! Stuff that I've been using to make the pink and white baby card - the EM now has a great great-niece ... or great grand niece depending where you are on this planet. He's chuffed to bits :) So what you see is all the supplies - embossing folders, ProMarkers, stamps, ribbon, embroidery silk, and other essential crafty items. The red box to the left, resting on the ProMarker boxes, is full of skeins of silk, leftover from my needlework days.  The sad looking bottle with the pearl-headed pin sticking out of it is Anita's glossy glue ... the top has suffered some abuse at my hands so the pin stops it from gumming up. The tarted up cat boxes are still remarkably tidy and proving their worth. Upper right, just in front of the scissors holder, is a pile of wood mounted stamps waiting to be indexed. On top of that is the bag I made at SU classes, now used for storing the card scraps I spent several hours this week patiently trimming to topper size ... it's only my theory but this should speed the process of cardmaking, well, at least by a tad. Of course, the TV remotes are handy ... I like a bit of company while I work ... and next to them are two super cards received from  lovely blogging friends, Janet and Di :)

I think that's about it for this week. I'll be popping in on as many of you as I can manage, if not today, then over the coming week. However, if the sun comes out at all, I'll be gone ... playing hooky ... I make no apology because we have just endured yet another cold and miserable week ... and I need some vitamin D!
