Friday Smiles

Hi Everyone,

It's Friday, time to share something of what has made me smile this week with Annie at A Stitch In Time, despite a disastrous few days!!! But we won't dwell on that. Instead I'm looking forward to the weekend, especially if the weather stays as lovely as it is today ... sunshine and blue sky, couldn't be better:)

Monday was my daughter's birthday, I won't reveal how old, and little Callum came along to celebrate. He had a bit of wind so this experienced hand picked him up, laid him on my shoulder and that's where he slept, and snored, for ages - maybe half an hour or more. Then he was handed over to my daughter, where he snoozed on her shoulder for another half hour or so! Having my baby great-grandson sleep so soundly in my arms rates as one of my all time favourite experiences :)

Here's another.
Standing on the sidelines cheering on my grandson at football, though it would have been even more of a pleasure if it hadn't been raining. He plays in the local under 17s team and just this week he has been told that he is to be Team Captain for the game on Sunday. Who's a proud grandmother then!

And, having just been complaining that we hadn't seen any butterflies this very wet summer, look who came to prove me wrong. It's a small tortoiseshell, one of the most common in Scotland, but not in my garden so I was delighted to see him.

Finally, my joke of the week:

An older lady decided to give herself a big treat for her 70th birthday by staying overnight in a really nice hotel.

When she checked out the next morning, the receptionist handed her a bill for £250.00.

She demanded to know why the charge was so high, "I do completely agree it's a nice hotel, but the rooms aren't worth £250.00 for just an overnight stay! I didn't even have breakfast."

The receptionist told her that £250.00 is the 'standard rate', and breakfast had been included had she wanted it.

She insisted on speaking to the Manager. The Manager appeared and, forewarned by the receptionist, announced:

“This hotel has an Olympic-sized pool and a huge conference centre, both of which are available for use".

"But I didn't use them," she said.

''Well, they are here, and you could have," explained the Manager. He went on to explain that she could also have seen one of the in-hotel shows for which they were so famous.

"We have the best entertainers from all over the world performing here," the Manager said.

"But I didn't go to any of those shows," she said.

"Well, we have them, and you could have," the Manager replied.

No matter what amenity the Manager mentioned, she replied, "But I didn't use it!" and the Manager countered with his standard response. After several minutes discussion, and with the Manager still unmoved, she decided to pay, wrote a cheque and gave it to him.

The Manager was surprised when he looked at the cheque.

"But madam, this cheque is for £50.00."

"That's correct. I charged you £200.00 for sleeping with me," she replied.

"But I didn't!" exclaimed the very surprised Manager.

“Well, too bad. I was here, and you could have!!!”

Now that's a woman it doesn't pay to mess with :)

Here's wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

What a lovely post from you Elizabeth. Little Callum looks so content and you look really happy. What a lovely photo. Congratulations to your grandson being made captain of his team. I love football and am excited about the new season starting tomorrow.

The butterfly photo is lovely. We've been lucky and seen quite a lot in our garden over the past couple of weeks. Have a lovely weekend. Barbxx

What gorgeous smiles this week Elizabeth. It's very special to share such prescious times with the smallest family members ins't it? Plus you are right to be such a proud Grandma on the touchline at the footy match....even if you got a little wet lol.
Thanks for joining in on a week that had come with other concerns and worries.
Biggest hugs,
Annie x

Hi Elizabeth.
I have to come in on the joke first. I love it!! There is nothing better than a witty woman. Callum looks right at home on your shoulder. What a nice visit you must have had. Congratulations on your grandson making team captain. One of the things I enjoy is going to my niece and nephews games, no matter what sport they are playing at the time.

That looks like a butterfly bush. I've tried them in my yard and they do not make it unfortunately.
Have a lovely weekend.
Hugs
Kay

I couldn´t agree more about family. I visited UK last month and was able to cuddle my latest great-grandson, and then I watched one of my grandsons in his end of year school play. And Yes, it did make me feel proud.
It looks as though you have a buddleia bush in your garden. The butterflies just love those. Kate x

Hi Elizabeth - such a precious photo of you cuddling Callum, family is so wonderful. Long day (nearly 10 hours) for us but we have arrived safely with plants and cats in good order. My garden here is suffering so I'm glad it's only 3 weeks till the final pack and move. Hope you're enjoying your weekend Robyn

Great capture of a butterfly - they always move to quickly for me to get crisp shots!
