WOYWW 150 - What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday

Good Morning Everyone,

At the risk of stating the obvious and much repeated, don't these Wednesdays come round quickly? The days are going too fast ... and much as I enjoy taking part in WOYWW I'd like time to stand still long enough for me to get my breath :)

Anyway, here's the reveal:

I'm working on a mini album as a birthday gift for someone special. I've already covered all the chipboard pieces with white gesso, so now it's the fun part, covering and embellishing them. There's still a lot of work to do yet but I have until the end of the week ... should be able to finish it by then ... well, that's my hope :)

If you've read Jo's blog, Jozart, or my earlier post, you'll know that, inspired by her gorgeous Afghan throw, I've hunted out my old crochet hook and after a break of some 20 years I'm making granny squares again ... aiming small, I'm planning a baby blanket and since Friday evening I've managed to complete 14 squares ... here's a photo ...

... not bad for a rusty crocheter, I'm right chuffed with progress so far. I've just got to work out how many squares I need so if anyone can tell me the size of the average baby blanket I'd really appreciate it.

Keeping it brief again this week ... our wonderful Keeper of the Workdesk Register, Julia, has suggested we do now that there are so many of us signing up each week. Don't know what this is all about, missing all the vicarious pleasure of the biggest snoop in blogdom, then hurry over to the Stamping Ground, where you can find out how to join in the fun.

I hope you all have a lovely WOYWW and I look forward to visiting as many of you as humanly possible :)

Happy Crafting,

So good to finally be back with WOYWW. Just seeing how creative everybody is, is making my head spin. Now where DID I put those crochet hooks all those years ago?
Your squares look lovely and the album is going to be great too!

Hi Elizabeth. I have a feeling I can help with sizes for baby blankets :-) Just let me know whether it is for a cot, pram or maybe just a lap blanket for a pushchair? I've made a few in my time for all our munchkins :-)

Thanks for the snoop! Your mini album is going to be gorgeous! I hope you have a chance to post pics of it when it's all finished?

I never learned how to crochet, even though my mom tried to teach me many times when I was younger. I was more of a paint and music girl!

Good morning Elizabeth,
the album colours and patterns are so lovely, what a lucky girl she will be to receive it.
If you like crochet have a look at what the very talented Adrianne at Teeny Weeny Design makes and also Natasja at Crochetime. If you google them their links will come up.
Have a lovely day.

Good on you to do the Crocheting, I could not do it if my life depended on it and believe me, my gran tried so hard to teach me...

My Chair back cover is actually a tote bag that I won at a convention where Tim came to South Africa in April last year....Too good to use all the time so I have it on display hanging over my chair...

Nice to see your crocheted squares and that you took it up again. Jozart's afghan has me thinking about it again, too, but I have only been out for about 2 years. Dani #104

Your squares are doing great, it's amazing how they all add up. Annie is right... you need to decide if you are making it for a pram, cot, or as a shawl wrap so take her advice on size.
Looking forward to seeing your special album finished. It's looking good.
Love JoZarty
still in Cromer!

Love the gorgeous papers! Your book is going to be awesome! I think Jo started something with those squares! I dug out my hook and yarn also but can't quite remember how to make the squares square they curl around! Hope you have a great week. Vickie #32

Hi Elizabeth,

Oh, I do love granny squares. That would be the only reason I'd learn to crochet. In my knitting patterns, an average baby blanket is 30 inches x 40 inches. You might find a free pattern on-line that would give you some guidance. Your squares look great, by the way.

So does your desk. I bought some chipboard but haven't used it yet. So you gesso it? Do you add papers to it? Just wondering.

Happy WOYWW

Your album is going to be beautiful. Your crochet is looking really gorgeous. I tried it as a child but kept getting holes where I shouldn't and gave up. Good on you for picking it up again.

Those papers are so fresh and pretty, and will make a fantastic album. By the way, Blogger switched me over to the new interface without asking, so I have immediately turned it back to the old one. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Thank you for your visit this week, and enjoy those new stamps. I think they are great. Have a good week. xx Maggie #59
