WOYWW 162 - Messing with Inks

Hi Everyone,

Wednesday - WOYWW day - so time for everyone to hop over to Julia's place, The Stamping Ground, and reveal the state of their workspace once again - just click the WOYWW icon to the left for a quick link.

I've been messing with my lovely new distress inks, making backgrounds on ATC blanks - four with perhaps too much water spritzed over the ink and one with maybe not quite enough ... I can see it is going to be a case of trial and error.

This basket is a new addition to the workdesk ... I've seen similar on a few WOYWWer's desks ... and spotted the one Di has on her desk last week ... her basket of goodies waiting to be used for the first time. Thought it was a great idea because, as I have a well-developed neatnik streak, I tend to put new goodies away immediately, stashed thus forgotten, so I've pinched the idea in the hope that I'll use everything at least once before it's put away :))

Eliza wanted to know how I use kitekat in art ... well, here's how - I store toppers in the empty box. I've been intending to cover it with something a bit more decorative looking for eons but it's just one of those projects that gets neglected - rather like the soap tablet box that can just about be seen in the background :) It's got more toppers in it ... maybe I should just get a bigger prettier box to hold all the toppers!

Just one last thing before I go to bed.

Last month I entered Sarn's Rudolph Day challenge - to make a Christmas card on or after the 25th of every month - it ends on the last day of the month - and blow me if I didn't win the draw ... number 13 - lucky for some, lucky for me :) This morning the postie delivered the beautifully packaged prize - donated by the lovely Di this month - together with a lovely card from Sarn. Many thanks to you both.

So that's me this week. The tortuous trotters are improving and, indeed, I did get out on Monday ... the first time in two weeks. I couldn't and didn't walk far ... baby steps :) Many thanks to all who have left messages of sympathy ... they were much appreciated.

I did rather better than usual last week and visited just over 90 blogs ... it would have been more but for the a few where I wasn't able to leave a comment. This week I hope to do as well, if not better ... well, I'm nosy and I like to see what you are all up to :))

As always, I hope you are all well and that none of you have been too badly affected by the unusual weather conditions that seems to be out lot for now.

Take care and happy crafting,

Had to laugh at the boxes. You obviously are a green crafter (grin). Congrats on your win. I bet you put it to good use. BTW, what is a topper? Is it like an embellishment? Only an American would ask a silly question like that.

The distress inks can be a bit tricky, but you can just go back over it with some more ink and water until you get the desired effect that you wish, which is a good thing because you don't have to throw the background away. dani #31

Elizabeth, it's my turn to wish you well. I hope your "trotters" feel better soon. Thank you for visting my site last week. I feel much better. A lingering cough but better.

I think your colors look great with the DI and water. Very vibrant and pretty.

And I think I am going to have to recycle the basket idea too. I do the same thing. Buy and then tuck away the new stuff.

Come play on my desk again when you are free.

Happy WOYWW Elizabeth.

Thanks for the snoop :)

I've got some distress inks and haven't played with them nearly enough but as you say, l think its a case of trial and error. It's fun getting all inky isn't it?

Glad your feet are on the mend and great new photo BTW.

Take care, big hugs xx

Good to see you! Love the idea of a box for new stash waiting to be played with (now how big would I need...!) You can add more water to your atc with too little, it will still blend, the joy of distress! Keep playing and keep sharing... see you soon!

Are those the inks you bought on your visit?? They've made some nice backgrounds there - it must be fun just randomly doing the colours and seeing how it all turns out!
I'm glad your poor feet are recovering slowly..hope you're up and about for much longer in the next few weeks :)

Fab inky play and use of kitty box! I'm a 'put it straight away' gal too but do tend to have a play just before! Take care, enjoy desk hopping! Zo xx 62

Your backgrounds all look lovely, Elizabeth. I don't think you can go wrong with DI's. Once you've created something on top of the background it'll look great. Just keep going!!
Love your new storage too.
Thanks for the info on your lovely garden. I've never thought of growing the hop in a tub. I have lots of plants in tubs, including two wisterias and they do great. What a shame I threw the old hop away!!
Happy WOYWW

Hi Elizabeth. The basket of new stuff is a good idea. I too have the new spring inks though mine are waiting to be used. You said that you hadn't quite got it right but both the too much and the too little achieve different looks that will be just right for something. WOYWW Hugs from Helen 69

90 blogs, that's amazing Elizabeth and your backgrounds are lovely. If you think some of them are too pale (I don't) then you can always add another layer.

I love the difference in your backgrounds, but it is nice to play. Love the basket idea too, maybe because I use a letter tray, it does seem to work because I am using things out of mine. Love the cat box idea, another WOYWWer Rita, has covered her cat boxes and they now look gorgeous. Happy WOYWW, Anne x #54

Hi Elizabeth , so lovely to read your message. I am sorry I didn't visit you much. The last 6 months were a bit messy for me. ( with my dad being ill and died at the end of february ) Now the holiday has started and I feel like catching up a bit now. So your message came just in time .... I hope you are well. But reading in the blogpost something has happened to you ; I hope it's not too bad. My crafting is also coming back ; it is so much a therapy for me. It feels so good to create something and to share it with people with the same interests. Without my hobby the already could have locked me up .... with lots of medicines. I will be a good blogger and visit you more often from now on. Love from rainy Holland , Christa.

Congrats on the Christmas win - lovely stamps. I like the idea of the basket for new goodies because, like you, I tend to put them away where they should be and perhaps forget what I've got. Thanks for a peep at your workspace. Hope you have a good week - Hazel, WOYWW #124 x

I think all those ATC backgrounds are brilliant. You can always add a bit more water to the one, and more ink to the others. Or just have wonderfully dreamy backgrounds. Just full of potential.

Thanks for stopping by.

Oh wow, how beautifully packaged is that sweet stamp? Sarn is a clever chicken, isn't she?!! I think the basket is a good idea... I'm a neat freak as well but don't have room for a basket on my desk. Ah well.

Hi Elizabeth. Thanks so much for visiting my blog. I love your basket for new goodies. Mine are in a shoebox that is really unattractive. It doesn't even have a cute kitty on it.

Hi Elizabeth!

Seems as if the basket for new stuff struck a few chords today :) I'm sure you'll find it works, and it's one of the first places I check - 'cos when it's full I can't buy anything else so I have to keep using new stuff so I can put it away and make room for more new stuff. Phew, that was a long mouthful!!

Pleased the inks are being played with - it's good to get inky!

Also, good that the trotters are improving - I guess you know when they put on piggies trotters when they get sore? Oinkment - boom, boom :))

Love and hugs, and I'm off to bed now! Di xxx

Hi Elizabeth! Thank you for all your sweet comments over the last what seems an eternity. :)

Your garden looks fabulous, mine looks like scorched earth. Fortunately we don't have a ban on watering but as hot as it's been watering seems of little help.

I do hope your feet are getting better.
Love & Hugs

Hi Elizabeth

Pleased to hear that you managed to get out this week .. .. hope the trotters are sorted now!

Well done on your Rudolph Day prize. How lovely .. .. and in its own special little box too!!

Your post is looking like you are in for a great crafty time with all those new goodies!

Have fun.

Hope all is good with you. Things are still very busy here but just catching up quickly before I make a start on the day.

I think once July has come and gone things will calm down a little for me(perhaps LOL!!).

Love Jules xx

Nice lot of stash there, Elizabeth, and I love your backgrounds. What I call "smooshed" backgrounds are such fun to do, aren't they, because you never know how they will turn out.

I'm more than a bit late Elizabeth but at least I got to see what you did with those lovely papers that you were playing with the new DI's. Hope you're managing to get out a bit more again as it's almost been a week since this post. I too have lots of boxes I'd love to alter, my problem is I don't know how to start so I do nothing!!

See you again soon no doubt!
