Friday Smile

Afternoon Folks

It's Friday, time to share something of what has made me smile this week with Annie at A Stitch In Time. It's been another hectic week at Chez Worthington - so much to do and so little time! - and it's taken until this afternoon to find time to sit down and think about what has got me smiling over the last seven days. On reflection, there's been a lot but I've decided that there's only really one photo I want to share and it's this.
Sunset over Ayr. Stunning, isn't it? Taken yesterday evening on our way home from a lovely day out with friends. We took a trip through Galloway Forest Park and stopped at Clatterinshaws Loch. The scenery was wonderful, as was the weather - wall-to-wall sunshine. Returning home late, tired and weary after our lovely day, looking forward to a much needed cuppa, we were treated to the prettiest sight - sheep in the meadows, rolling hills and, in the distance, the sun setting over the sea ... perfect! We just had to stop and admire it, our weariness temporarily forgotten.

Now for my joke this week - another tale from the Highlands of Scotland.

Big Maggie and the Pig

In the small Highland town of Drumcrian, over a wee dram, the farmers and crofters of the community had gathered together to discuss some important issues concerning future developments in hill farming.

About midway through the meeting, Big Maggie stood up and spoke passionately, and at some length.

Before Maggie could finish her rant, one of the older farmers got up and asked,

"What does she know about anything? I would like to ask Big Maggie if she knows how many toes are on a pig?!?!"

Quick as a flash Big Maggie rounded on him and replied,

"Take off your boots and count them."

And that is how Big Maggie met Donald!

*****

If you are a regular follower of the tales of Donald, you may remember from previous weeks that Big Maggie and Donald are husband and wife :)

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and that the week ahead brings you much to smile about.

Crazy Daisy Birthday Card - WOYWW Catch-Up Just

Hello Everyone

I hope this finds you well and enjoying your evening. Usually on a Wednesday I join in with Julia's What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday but today, instead, I accompanied my daughter, Juli, to the Scottish Cochlear Implant Centre at Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock. The good news is that after numerous tests it has been decided that she will benefit from having an implant and so the operation will be go ahead some time within the next nine weeks. Needless to say, as her mother, I have concerns for her going through an operation but she is so excited at the possibility of hearing better, in particular hearing music for the first time in her 44 years, that I'm delighted for her too.

Now for the WOYWW catch-up. If you caught this WOYWW post a few weeks back you might recall the beginnings of this card on my workdesk. The completed card doesn't look that much different because I thought that the photo really didn't need a lot of embellishment.

Materials used:

  • An A4 sheet of purple textured cardstock, Papermania, folded in half to create the card base
  • A snippet of lilac textured cardstock
  • White card punched using an EK Success border punch to create the trim
  • An oddment of plaid ribbon that just happened to pick out the colours in the photo
  • The photo
  • Greeting stamp, Sweet Roses set free with a crafting magazine, Simply Cards & Papercraft Issue 139
  • Whispers Rio Purple ink pad
  • Purple gems in two sizes

I'm submitting this card to Pixie's Snippet Playground - unless the scrap of ribbon is counted, just one, admittedly large, snippet used, but it all helps.

That's it for this evening. I had a very early start this morning and I'm beat now so it's off to bed for me. I wish you all a very good night.

Sewing Machine Mat

Morning Everyone

A quick post today because we are off out to the garden centre shortly so I better get a wriggle on.

What I have to share with you this morning is the sewing machine mat I made as a gift for my daughter, Juli.

Juli has plans to create a sewing corner elsewhere in her home but in the meantime she sews on a table in her main living room. Because of this, it occurred to me that anything that helps muffle the sound of the sewing machine would be very welcome. I searched online and found quite a few illustrations of sewing mats and then I adapted the idea to the fabric I had chosen.

Materials used:

  • 1 x patterned fat quarter - If She Knows She Sews - £3.25 from Oh Sew Crafty
  • 1 x plain turquoise fat quarter - bought at the craft show in Glasgow last year
  • Wadding cut to fit the padded bit that the sewing machine sits on
  • Black bias binding - enough to bind the edges of the pocket piece and round the entire mat.
  • Thread, scissors, sewing machine

Now all I need to do is make a mat for my own sewing machine but that could be some time as I have one or two more pressing projects I'm working on at the moment.

Thanks for dropping in. I hope you have a lovely day. I see the sun is breaking through the clouds so it may turn out to be a lovely afternoon.

Take care.
