WOYWW - Wk 199

Good morning and a happy What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday to you all.

For Julia, over at the Stamping Ground, all the other willing WOYWWers out there in blogland, and myself, it's once again the day in the week when we bravely reveal whatever is on our workdesk ... or dining room table, or kitchen counter top, or even the floor.

My workdesk is a mess of gesso. Photo taken last thing Tuesday evening and nothing has changed yet this morning ... except that light is better now. They're the empty cat food boxes I've been using to store crafty stuff in for a year or so. I've finally gotten around to doing something to prettify them although so far I've just given them two coats of white gesso ... it's a start :) Haven't made up my mind what the next step is yet - still waiting for inspiration to hit me :))

Apart from the basket to the left, full of pots of paints and associated stuff, I think everything else on the desk has been there for weeks and doesn't look any tidier ... it's now started to drive me mad so I feel a clear up coming on!!!

And that's just about it for this week ... not much to report except it's been too cold to linger for long in the craft space so there has been precious little crafting going on.

We seem to be heading for a white Easter ... unbelievable!

As usual, I wish you all a happy WOYWW but this week I'd also like to wish you all a happy Easter holiday too.

Happy crafting,

Hullo there Elizabeth.. ah Gesso that is something I have never used.. maybe some masks and sprays? does that work on gesso? you could have some inky fun that way.. or texture in some other way..
happy playing..

.. and yes so sorry about your big freeze up there.
How you do not need it sending you some Aussie sunshine instead..lovely here still, Shaz in Oz.x #14

Hi Elizabeth, I love your big pot of gesso, I seem to buy tiny ones and then faff about with them. Hope it warms up enough for you to spend some quality time in your craft room. Look forward to seeing the finished result of the box/es. Have a lovely Easter and happy WOYWW, Anne x #33

Hope you get back to finish the boxes soon - whilst a white Easter isn't totally unheard of, we don't really want one, do we!!! Have a good week. Helen, 12

I'm having a whiz around a few desks while my twinnies have their morning nap :-)It may depend how long they go down for as to how many I get to see this morning. :-)
Have just called in to read Di's blog....she's the girl for organising and tidying up it seems today :-)

I cannot and will not defend the weather..you seem to have a white out on your desk too -my word that gesso sure looks bright and clean! I admire you for not putting up with undecorated boxes any more...I wonder where your decor tendencies will take you with these. Mind, whilst it's cold, they should sit alone!

You're making progress, Elizabeth; can't wait to see where inspiration takes you with these repurposed boxes! Lots of wonderful ideas on Pinterest when you type gesso in the little search box in the upper left. Using DI reinkers is so bold. And, of course, lots of other WOYWWers do awemazing things with gesso mixed media!

Have a wonderful week! Darnell #43

Ah, time spent listening to music is not wasted :). I really enjoyed listening to Eddie Reader as I've not heard much about her for a few years. She can still sing a tune :)
I like the look of those gessoed boxes. It would have been so easy just to live with the unadorned version but these are going to look so much better! Perhaps you could something along the summery theme too. If we all do that maybe the weather will change for the better!! Lol we can but try :)

You have reminded me...I really must get some gesso. It is something that everyone says is fab and I have never used! I look forward to seeing the final prettified version of the boxes. Thanks for sharing. Happy WOYWW. Caro x #73

Hi Elizabeth,
Mmm I wander what you will do with the boxes... they look a bit like cat beds so maybe a cat theme might be a good idea, what are you going to put in them. good luck anyway

Looking forward to seeing your 'prettified' boxes. I have a couple that I would like to do something with - will get round to it - one day. Happy Easter. Anne x #84

Curious to see how you prettify the cat food boxes. I love that you are recycling something. Go you!

Parts of the midwest here in the states are getting their share of snow too. Six Flags amusement park in St. Louis MO is due to open up on Friday for the season and they are using snow blowers to clear off almost 1 foot of snow throughout the park. OUr temperatures have been between 20 and 30 degrees below our average temp for this time of year. I'm so ready for Spring! Creative Blessings! Kelly #158

Ah yes, cat food boxes! :) I flatten the ones the girls canned food come in. They make great ATCs or dimensionals for mixed media. Happy Easter and Happy WOYWW! Nan #115

I am looking forward to seeing those boxes finished and on show. I don't know about a White Easter, but we look like having a White Year. We so need some warmth and sun in our lives. You are so lucky having starlings. We have not seen any for a couple of years although we feed most of the world population of goldfinches and siskins. We have no house sparrows either. Thank you for your visit and you can see the results of the stamps very soon. Have a good Easter, white or not. xx Maggie #17

Cat food boxes are great aren't they. I don't have cats but a friend saved a couple for me and I turned them into greeting card displays for selling cards at work! They are so sturdy...and best of all free!!!

I look forward to seeing what you make with them.
thanks for visiting my desk already
