A Kaleidoscope of Butterfly Snippet Cards

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all well and have not only had a wonderful weekend but also a not so bad Monday.  Belatedly, I'd like to welcome my newest followers - I hope you continue to find enough of interest in this blog to keep coming back whenever you can.

Apologies for not being around for a couple of days. I burst a a vessel in my right thumb and as I'm right-handed crafting activities have been limited. It was spontaneous and painful and I have absolutely no idea what caused it. Happily, it's fine now and normal service has been resumed.

Here's what I've been up to today.

Ever since I spotted Victoria's beautiful butterfly canvas on Pixie's Craft Snippets - Week 56 I've been thinking about using up the pile of mini butterflies, punched from the smallest of snippets, I have accumulated over the last year or so. After sorting them all out into colour families, this is what I've come up with.

All the card bases are small - the biggest is 3" square. Even the card used for layering came from the snippet drawer. Here, I've used the deckle edged blade that came with the trimmer to trim the topper layers. First time I've ever used it and now I can't think why this is so - the result is very nice.

Each butterfly topper is made up of two layers - a flat one, and a shaped one (fixed with glue gel to provide dimension). Here, the base butterfly is silver, above it's blue.

The base of these butterflies is plain pink. All the butterflies have been finished off with an embellishment down the length of the thorax. Here, it is opal liquid pearls, the two above it's crystal glitter glue and on the fourth card it's gold liquid pearls.

The base butterfly on this card is gold - I think this is my favourite :) There's a butterfly embellishing the inside  of each card ...

... and the back too.

Materials used:
bases: Kanban's tiny shaped card bases
matting & layering: scraps of card in various colours & gold mirri card
butterflies: snippets of patterned paper
Embellishments: Liquid Pearls - gold and opal, Stickles - crystal
tools: trimmer and deckle-edge blade, a tiny butterfly punch, glue gel

Of course, I'll be popping over to Di's to link this to Week 58 of her Snippet Challenge.

In comparison to Victoria's beautiful canvas ... well, there is no comparison ... but I'm chuffed with these sweet little cards and delighted to have found a use for all those butterflies. I've still got a heap of butterflies lying on the worktop but I think I'll keep them for now - they might come in for embellishing a scrap page or two.

Time for bed so I'll bid you all goodnight and happy crafting,

  9. Ooooh, these are so pretty Elizabeth! Lovely flutterbys and a great way to use snippets.Love the punch you used!!

Wondering if your trimmer is a Woodware one? I have the long one (over 12") and accidentally got cutting channel mats for the shorter trimmer - the T-400 it's called, they are 24cm long. If it's the shorter one and you'd like them drop me an email - otherwise I'll be asking if anyone wants them - free and for nothing - on WOYWW.

Shame on me - I think I have almost every Woodware fancy cutting blade and rarely think to use them ;(

Ack, your thumb sounds painful - glad to see you're back in action now!!!

    Hugs, Di xx
