What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday - Week 452

Morning Everyone

It's time again to pop over to Julia's Stamping Ground for the weekly desk reveal that is WOYWW, although you could say I'm a week late. As I posted on Monday, the EM was in hospital last week so I was nowhere near my workdesk. Happily, he is much better today ... I can hear him across the landing crooning away to 'Some Enchanted Evening'!
Not only am I at my workdesk but I've made a start on a card, making use of some of the bits and bobs unearthed during the big sort out - which, I have to admit, is still a work in progress. So, on the desk you can see a few die sets ... the stitched square set on the left being the most recent one used, and a pot of Gentle Blends, Hot Magenta. That's my box of white scraps on the right. And then there's the pile of Big and Juicy pads. I was looking for the ink pad I used on the background of the card, didn't find it but did find these very neglected pads tucked away in one of the many drawers in my room. Sadly, another example of the 'must have/has been' items in my stash. No longer available but once popular. I think I might just see what I can do with them again.

One thing I did have plenty time for was to listen to audio books ... all that waiting about in hospital had to be filled somehow. I got through these three books.

Hidden Nature by Alys Fowler. Gardeners may know the writer from her appearances on Gardeners' World however, in this book, she tells of here experiences exploring Birmingham's canal network in an inflatable kayak  - quite an adventure and well worth reading about.

This one, A Seaside Practice, is a heartwarming tale of Dr Tom Smith's experiences as a GP in a little village just down the coast from where I live. Thoroughly enjoyable, it made me laugh out loud at times ... very embarrassing, I can tell you, when travelling on a bus!

The last one for the knitters among us. In The Yarn Whisperer: Reflections on a Life in Knitting, Clara Parkes ponders the roles knitting plays in her life. Lovely read - listen in my case. Perfect for the addicted knitter.

That's all from me today. I'm off to make a cuppa and a bit of lunch before settling down to check out what's on everyone's desks this week.

Have a lovely WOYWW and a wonderful week ahead.

  2. Hi Elizabeth, glad to hear the EM is out of hospital and feeling better. I have four of those Big and Juicy pads too. I will have to look them out and see if they are still useable. They are great for quick backgrounds. That book about the GP sounds interesting. I'm working my way through some Jeffrey Archer audio books on the way to and from work at the moment. Have a good week. Sarah #12

  3. Afternoon Elizabeth. have just read back through your posts - Oh my! I'm so sorry EM has been so very poorly. Resus is a fabulous, helpful place - but extremely scary! Fortunately, the person involved doesn't know a great deal... but you do! John was taken to resus on one occasion - ambulance, flashing lights, siren, the lot! It is very distressing for the non-patient! Bless you - I'm glad he is so much better and they have seen what needs doing. I'm amazed you have done any craft work at all - but well done that you have managed some. Your own heartbeat can come back to normal now EM is home!!!
Take care. God bless you both.

  4. Hi Elizabeth, glad to hear that himself is out of hospital now. I have one of those Big & Juicy pads, always meant to get more, but never got round to it. Amazing what you find when having a sort out & tidy, isn't it? Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #6 XxX

  5. Oh Elizabeth, I hadn't realised that EM had been so very poorly. I just nipped back to your Monday post to read what had happened. How scary for you both, but what a difference between the two pics. He's got to be good and listen to the medics, at least you know there are things that can be done to help. Sending you both big gentle hugs xxxx
Thank you for the book recommendations - I found the Carrington stories and enjoyed them.

  8. The Dr Tom book sounds like one I would thoroughly enjoy. Love that type of novel and need to venture into the audio book world instead of all this reading I do.
Glad the Em is feeling a bit better, honestly I could tell you a tale that would make you laugh about my pacemaker operation. It really is easy and there is no need to get worked up about it - of course you still do despite what you are told. Give him my love anyhow - and save some for yourself.
A worrying time all round not just for the patient.
    Hugs, Neet 3 xx

  9. Glad the EM is on the mend... and that my inky marks reminded you of the heart monitor - they did me too! I haven't used my Big stamp pads for i don't know how long...wonder if they are still big and juicy!! Have a good week, and I hope that the EM continues to recuperate. Helen #2

  11. Hi Elizabeth. I love the big and Juicy pads. I have had some for years and they are still nice and juicy! The Audio books sound like a good idea though I am still into the real thing. I'm reading a Steampunk story at the moment called Cogheart, love it. Have a lovely woyww and happy crafty week, Angela xXx

  12. Hi Elizabeth

Many thanks for your lovely comment on my blog .. .. so sorry to read about your hubby when I arrived here!

Back tracking I can see he has been very poorly. What a worrying and scary time for you both!

I am pleased to read the patient is lots better now - shame more hospital visits are going to be needed :-(

I have just one of those Big and Juicy pads in my collection .. . but the colours are slowly starting to merge now.

    Take care both of you!

    Love Jules xx

  13. Happy Belated WOYWW. I always wanted those Big & Juicy inkpads. I have got one smaller version from another company - and use it all the time still. Think that book about the Scottish doctor sounds good - will go and get it on my Kindle. Ali x #26
