What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday - WOYWW Week 408

Hello Everyone,

Ah, back again. Another week gone, another What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday come. I'll make this post brief, as is preferred by our Head Desker, Julia.
A little sewing project on the desk today. Easter chicks. I'm planning to make one to begin with and if that works out okay I'll make another three to give to my great-grandchildren. The pattern pieces have been traced on to wax paper ready for the cutting out. To the back, that's some left over wadding and cotton backing fabric from the quilt I'm also working on and the red folder is full of instructions for the said quilt. Here's an update photo of how it's looking before quilting.

All three layers being pinned together after ironing.

This is my least favourite part of quiltmaking - mainly because I haven't got a surface big enough to spread the whole quilt out on before pinning it together. Might be a good idea to stick to smaller quilting projects in future.

So, that's my desk today. It's all sewing and no papercrafting. Next week could be completely different - that's the joy of crafting.

I'm off now to snoop around other folk's desks.

Here's to a fabulous WOYWW and a great week ahead.

  1. Loving the colors you have chosen for the quilt. I have to change up my crafting ideas a lot. I love fabric items, but a new sewing machine has be baffled, it's to techy, I am getting old and prefer sitting down and sewing not thinking about buttons and computer digits. Have a great week

  4. Oh, I am so with you on the pinning of quilt layers together...i absolutely detest that! No matter how careful I am to smooth everything down, there always seems to be a pucker when it some to the quilting bit....sigh. The actually patchwork bit is fun however - what I would give to possess more patience :-D

  5. Beautiful quilt. I made one as a teenager and had a large quilting frame. First and last quilt. Your chick does sound interesting. Thanks for the visit! Hope you have a great week!

  9. Now that is a lovely quilt! Do you use a temporay adhesive spray to hold the layers together before pinning etc? I have used it and it seems to work well. x Jo

  10. Can't wait to see the chicks. Thought I might need some wadding to put under my embroidery before stretching it on the MDF???? Still pondering that??? As for a large space for pinning out, I have a concertina cardboard cutting mat which I open out on my bed. Maybe one of those would help.
Just googled them and hope this link will work here:-https://www.amazon.co.uk/Simplicity-881630-Pattern-Cutting-Board/dp/B004KYX8LK
On Amazon they ranged enormously in price so best to have a look round.
    Thanks for the visit BJ#20

  11. Hi Elizabeth. I am SO impressed with that quilt. I just know I wouldn't have the patience to do something like that - I'd probably rush it and spoil it... Enjoy making the chick(s).
I'm so hoping you can still get down to the crop now the date has changed to September instead of October. I'm looking forward to meeting you.
    Take care. God bless.

  13. I love the quilt colours. You seem to be managing despite the lack of space to lay it out for pinning. It looks great.

  14. The quilt looks lovely - worth every bit of pain in this pinning together stage (which I haven't a clue about). Did Jo once say that she had it done somewhere else or am i muddling it up with another stage? Anyway, it is truly beautiful. I love symmetry!
    Good luck with the bunnies.

  15. Hi Elizabeth, just had to re follow you again too. Don't know what blogger is up to these days. It has put me on as no picture and my full name so I'm incognito now. Your chicks sound interesting. Just had a read of the post below and love all your garden pictures. Spring is such a nice time of the year in the garden. Hugs Mrs A.

  16. Hi Elizabeth. Thanks for the visit to mine. I'm late again this week and still trying to get round as I've either been making stuff or out enjoying myself (walking today). Happy belated woyww, Angela x11x

  17. I'm so late! Lovely lovely quilt - I think the space thing is every quilter's problem isn't it..that and actually getting the thing quilted. My sister in the US uses a service for that part! No doubt in my mind that the chick will be lovely and you will be making more - probably done by now! I'm thankful for you that not every project you take on needs a file FULL of instructions!
