And I hope it is a happy WOYWW for you all, even if it does seem to come round much too fast every week.
So time to reveal all again ... no idea what I'm about to reveal, then I suggest you start by hopping over to our desk keeper extraordinaire, Julia's Stamping Ground where all is revealed :)
On my desk this week there's an album I'm working on, piles of old family photographs, the label maker that I was using, my newest toy, a spritzer, the dish of adhesives, plaid cover concealing baby wipes, scissors, jug of pens and pencils, and toilet rolls!
The spritzer only arrived today and I've only had a little play with it but you can see that it works. However, it will take a good bit more practice yet, methinks. So far I've tried out Memento Dual Markers, TH Distress Markers and ProMarkers - the last gave the best results. Using a template for the apple was fun and it doesn't look too bad at all. It's all in how you direct the pen and getting the puff just right - just needs perseverance :)
As many of you know, I had a huge sort out of my massive photo collection recently. What was left has filled two drawers in a little chest of drawers and the family history photos have filled a big archival box - that's an awful lot of scrapping!!! In fact, it clearly going to be impossible for me to scrap even a fraction of them. Needless to say, I've been puzzling over what to do about them ever since. After much research, I have decided that the best thing I can do is get those photos into albums as quickly as possible, and to do this I'm adapting the Project Life method.
This particular page records the funeral of my two great-great uncles who died tragically in a mining accident at the Eccles Mine, Raleigh, West Virginia in 1910. They were buried at Wildwood Cemetery there and the photos on the funeral notice are the only ones I have. It's a sad, sad story, they were only 24 and 22 years old at the time. The page includes a copy of the obituary that was published in the Fifeshire Advertiser shortly after the event.
As usual, these photos were taken just after midnight before turning in for the night. So I'm off to bed now, but I'll be back and linking with Julia some time in the morning, and then visiting as many of you as I can possibly manage.
In the meantime, happy crafting everyone,
What a good idea, Project Life for getting old photos is an album. Thanks for the idea.

Never seen one of those sprayers before very interesting and your project life is coming along nicely :) hugs Nikki I'm posted Here
ReplyDeleteI think it's really amazing that you have so many great photos to document your family history. What a terrible tragedy that your Great-Great-Uncles were lost in a mining accident in the states. Do you still have family in the states. I watched a documentary about immagrants in the South, and there was a large settlement of Irish & Scottish immigrants in the South. Especially W.Virginia, Tenessee, N.Carolina and Georgia. Just a did bit of information. I'm also intrigued by that black apparatus. I'd love to see a youtube tutorial. HINT…HINT…. :D I hope you have a great week. (((HUGS)))

I just recently read about Project Life, and even though I'm not a scrapbooker, I like the concept. That is a sad, sad story to have to document. I'm sure it was painful for you, too.
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW from #2.
I nearly spat out my morning cuppa when I read the words "getting the angle and the puff just right"!!! Enough said......
ReplyDeleteHey, I love that little dress you made for your granddaughter..how pretty is that? I've never done shirring like that...in fact, I wouldn't even know where to start. But it makes for a lovely result! Well done you!!
And yes, I can be that monstrous before my first cup of tea in the morning ;-)
Hugs, LLJ 20 xx
Wow! That spritzer looks like fun. Wish I could come and play! How sad about your two great great uncles! Such tragedy. How wonderful, though to have such a wealth of family history to draw on. Julie Ann x
ReplyDeleteWow that's a fabulous family history you must have there in photos and such great stories to be told. I think your adaptation to Project Life will be the perfect and a quick way to preserve these treasures. Your new toy looks like fun too! Have a great week! Danie #25
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea for getting your photos all organised - it is something I keep intending to do, but never actually get round to it. The spritzer looks like you'll have fun!

Hello Elizabeth am liking the spritzing :-) I too must get photos sorted. Happy WOYWW Anne x #24
ReplyDeleteOhhh I keep seeing peeks about project life so it will be lovely to see your progress. So many photos can be quite daunting but it looks like you have a plan. Have a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteSandra @69
We're liking the look of the spritzer, we could imagine we'd accidentally spritz the walls, floors....
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW from the bears @#78
You are doing great with those albums, real progress going on. I love WOYWW I learn so much, Spritzer? mmh, going to have to add that to the look up list too, that does look fun.

Oooo - that spritzer looks fun, Elizabeth. Great photo ideas. All of ours are in albums and catalogued now - except that I have just emptied my father's house....and guess what....yes, 7 large bags and boxes of photos. All need going through, many will need scanning in to the computer for the family history files, and then all need to go on to my brother for him to do the same. No, the word "boredom" was NOT written in my dictionary either!
ReplyDeleteHave a great fun week playing with your new toy.

Super spritzer and fab things going on. I've just got my hands on PL for the first time as you'll see on my desk. I plan on going through photos and memories and recording them all in there so it's can be out on the coffee table and we can look at any time! Well once done that is! Take care my friend, stay cool. Zo xx 77
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to display your old photos :)

That spritzer looks like a nasty weapon!! Our great grandfather was killed in a mining accident in the Lead mines. Jo #11
ReplyDeleteThat spritzer looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteYou are wide to use the \project life. I have been collecting the various envelop pages in preparation for scrapping the England trip we start tomorrow.
I think it will take the pressure off to get it finished...pages do go together a bit faster with this great idea.
No need to search for me...not participating in WOYWW till I return in the fall. Just visitng a couple of my fave blogs B4 I leave.
Have fun with the spritzer - it looks fun but messy!! The trouble with taking lots of photos is always what to do with them.. I should know, and I don't scrap at all! Have a good week, Helen 6
ReplyDeleteI love old photographs and sprinting ink. You do have a massive project on your hand, good luck. #114 Ann
ReplyDeleteyou stay up too late E, really! Love the idea of getting the collection into albums with notes, really a good idea and also a sort of 'settling' for the mind..a collection like that with out protection is a worry. great job.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have those photos from so far back! And learning how to spritz, too! Busy gal! Happy WOYWW!
ReplyDeleteCarol N #106
I like how Bonnie's sidebar photo looks like she's overseeing your post :) Happy WOYWW! Thanks for a sharing a peek into your studio space, I love seeing what everyone is up to! ~Robin Panzer Art Studio 33 (#132 whoa…I was late to the party today!)
ReplyDeleteMorning Elizabeth, your desk looks nice and busy and you must feel very lucky to have so many ofl family photos... think the Project Life route would be perfect if you have so many! Annette #1 for the first time in 4 years!
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have seen these PILO's seem a good idea and so much quicker than the usual LO's but a bit more interesting than a plain old album.
ReplyDeleteI have one of those spritzers but have never used it - you might just have spurred me on - if I can find it. Thanks for the interesting show of what it does. Love your apple.
Hugs, Neet xx 19
That spritzer looks like it could get you into trouble!
ReplyDeleteI love to hear about people's family history. As long as the album is acid free you should be ok. I hate to think about how many photos got wrecked by past photo albums - specially the clingon variety!
Hugs
xx
Like you, I have hundreds of family photos that all need sorting and putting into albums together with their history. My family tree file terrifies me. It is now backed up in so many different ways and places. I would never be able to do it all again if it were lost, especially the stories I gleaned from those who are no longer alive.I must look up about Project Life as I have not heard of it. Thank you for your visit, and good luck with your sorting and your new toy. xx Maggie #48
ReplyDeleteOh love the "Project Life" method, do you have to get a special album/pages for it? BJ
ReplyDeletehi Elizabeth
ReplyDeletedon't you find you spend a long time just looking at the photos and reminiscing which is why it takes so long but lovely.
very late this week .....computer issues

Hello. Well Im Roberta aka Bert #122. And Im new and very slow at this. I seem to get lost in all the goodies in every one sites.. just wanted to say thank you for sharing and letting me peak. Have a lovely day. Bert
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea, I don't scrap but have thought of trying it as I have 100s of pictures of my kids (who are now 16 and 14 so a mega load of pictures), but the thought seems so daunting. This would be fantastic for me, a little bit of embellishment and the words and lots of photos done at once. Oh wow that spritzer looks fab, I have seen a promarker one but its really really expensive, do you mind me asking how much this costs? Happy late woyww :-) Kezzy xxx
