Hello Everyone,
It's the last week of WOYWW before the big day and probably like most of you I'm still working through my to-do list. Happily, that list is a lot lighter than last week ... just a few items to tick ofF and I'll be ready for the festivities.
So not a workdesk shot for you today ... you really don't want to see the mess, honestly, you don't! It pains me to look at the dumping ground it has become so instead I'm treating you to a rare view of our dining table :) Covered in winter greenery, some artificial red flowers and berries, and jugs of 'flower arrangements'. Please don't judge these too harshly ... I'm totally untrained and tend to just stuff bits in until I think they look pretty!!!
Most of this came from the garden but we did go down to the woods today and brought back a few bits of holly.
Here's the EM doing his thing with the secateurs.
Sadly, despite there being plenty of holly bushes in the woodS, we couldn't find any with berries - the birds must have beaten us to it.
It was quite a mild day and very pleasant out ... love the smell of the woodland.
Our tree ... same one as last year but with new lights. The old ones died a death so the EM was sent out on a mission to bring back some new ones ... and he did well, these LED lights are really pretty. You can see one of my greenery 'arrangements' in the background there and the nutcracker I brought back from my sojourn in America for Christmas1995. It cost just a few dollars in a Wellesley store and it would never crack a nut but I am very fond of it still :)
And that's about it for this week. Anyone not familiar with the phenomenon that is WOYWW, it's the blog hop devised by inestimable Julia Dunnit which enables the
Finally, especially for you all, here's my way of saying thank you to you for all the fun and friendship received throughout the year ... you brighten my days and I so appreciate each and everyone of you.
Here's wishing you all a ...
WONDERFUL HOLIDAY TIME
AND A VERY
HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
That sounds like a fun walk! I sent DH out to get some branches for me. Luckily he found someone pruning and brought home a few...perhaps not quite what i had planned but I will walk out with him tomorrow and get some of the woody triggy branches that I would like to finish it off.
ReplyDeleteYours look great and the tree is sparkly and pretty.
I need to get one that sixe for the family room. We have big pieces of furniture in there, plus a large toybox and endtable, coffee table etc so there is no rioon for a tree unless it sits on a table.
We keep our bir tree in the living room but it is nice to have one where you relax as well.
So glad to hear that you do arrangements like I do, no training just what pleases my eye! How lucky you are to have fresh hollly and greenry, afraid mine are almost all the fake stuff!
ReplyDeleteHave a great holiday!

ReplyDeleteWe too have been picking holly this week for me to add to a garland on our door....it's rather sharp too so maybe it will keep my customers away for the holidays :-)
ReplyDeleteMay you have a wonderful Christmas filled with everything that makes you happy.
Hugs,

How lovely to have fresh greenery in the house, Elizabeth. Your arrangements look beautiful and I bet they smell nice too. Love your tablecloth by the way.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't dare show my proper desk either. It's piled high with bills to file, bits of stuff taken upstairs and dumped and secret santa things.
My first job after the big day will be to have a good tidy up.
Have a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful and Crafty New Year.

That's reminded me, I ought to go down to the woods and do likewise. Happy Christmas to you - love BJ#1

Ooh how lovely to be able to create your own displays of seasonal sort. Looks fab, pretty tree too! No desk from me today as I've got DT projects on there and I can't share them yet! So Merry Christmas and take care. Zo xx
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing more lovely, or more traditional, than bringing in green boughs into the home at this time of year. I am hoping to go for a woodland walk at the weekend to collect mine.
ReplyDeleteI love your altered notebook in your earlier post (they make such great stocking fillers).
Seasons Greetings

I shall be looking for greenery over the weekend. I bought some lovely red carnations today but like you I shall just be popping them in a vase. I like things simple! Have a wonderful Christmas. x Jo
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to beable to make your arrangements from your garden Elizabeth simply perfectly done too! hope you have a lovely time during this festive period and all the very best for 2013 take care xx
ReplyDeleteWell it certainly os looking like Christmas at yours ... lovely! We have a large holly tree in our garden that has never managed a single berry in the 30 years we've lived her - just over the fence I can see our neighbour's holly tree groaning with the weight of its fruit! Hey ho. Happy Wednesday and Happy Christmas, too. :o)

Hi Elizabeth, I think your festive arrangement looks beautiful and as for the holly berries, it seems it has been a very poor year all round which some say means we will not have a harsh winter (if you believe these myths). The lights on your tree are pretty too. All the very best to you and your EM for the holiday season. Hugs, Anne x #20
ReplyDeleteThe greenery lends such a beautiful xmas atmosphere. To think it came from the garden how wonderful. Wishing you a joyous christmas.
ReplyDeleteSandra @17
How wonderful that you can just walk out to the woods and snip fresh holly for your home! It's all plastic around here. Well, I mean, not growing of course. Wouldn't that be something?! It probably will happen one day.
ReplyDeleteYour home is quite festive and I love your Nutcracker standing by even if he is just for show!
Happy Christmas to you both, Elizabeth, and a very Merry New Year! Darnell #32
Not for me the overly arranged flower vases...oh no..I'm with you on the 'stuff it in until you're happy' technique!!! And yours look beautiful and festive and you had fun doing them, which is the most important thing after all!!
ReplyDeleteHope you and EM and your families have a wonderful Christmas. Thank you for all your support and friendship over the past year :)
Sending hugs and best wished for a wonderful Christmas!

What a beautiful tree. And what a beautiful Christmas arrangement you left us with. Altogether some lovely photos Elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteWe have a couple of holly bushes but they must be male as they never have berries. One is massive but Mr Blackbird lives in it so it keep growing and growing, can't disturb his nest.
Blessings to you and yours this Christmas
Hugs, Neet xx 12
Merry Christmas to you Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteI love your arrangements. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a very Happy Christmas. Caro (#65)
ReplyDeleteI was looking at holly on my dog-walk yesterday and no berries. Think that only the female bushes bear the berries so assume I happened on a bunch of bachelor bushes. Love your arrangements - nothing beats a natural look as far as I'm concerned.
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping in yesterday - just catching up now.
Best wishes for Christmas and for a peaceful New Year.

Well if there was a certificate for stuffing it in till it looks pretty, I'd say you've got it...the greenery looks lovely, so refreshing too. Your new lights are fab, I guess LED will be the way to go for all of us won't it, typical of the EM to be up there with the technology! Happy Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by and for your kind comment re my backgrounds. We both have the same approach to flower arranging. It usually works out OK!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely Christmas and a happy new year!
I love all your greenery, and your tree is about the same size as mine. Nice to peek into someone's house at Christmas. Have a lovely Christmas and a Very Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteCassidy
