I hope you are all well today and that the sun is shining in your part of the world, as it is here in Ayr.
Today's share is not something newly completed but a mini album I made for my granddaughter, Shari-Ann, two years ago for her 7th birthday. I did take photos back then but they were of such bad quality I decided not to post them.
However, at the weekend, on a visit to my daughter's, the album, with a few losses and additions, was brought out so I grabbed the opportunity to photograph it once more.
The main part of the album is made from the insides of toilet rolls, flattened by putting them through the Cuttlebug and decorated with brightly patterned papers - most of which came free with a magazine.
I notice that a ribbon bow has come off, but otherwise it is very much as I made it - I've promised that I'll take a replacement bow up on my next visit.
This side shot shows how the labels fit inside the album pages. Here's a few shots of the pages.
Pages 1 & 2 |
Pages 3 & 4 |
Pages 5 & 6 |
Pages 7 & 8 |
Labels - side 1 |
The labels provide mats for photographs - the one in the middle shows her gap-toothed smile at that age :)
Labels - side 2 |
The back cover is decorated with a huge punched flower and a little journaling spot.
So there we are, an album that, apart from time and effort, cost very little to make and has the added bonus of recycling/upcycling cardboard that would normally be tossed in the bin.
I'm delighted to be able to report that my daughter is now scrapbooking :) Her first project is an album recording the pets she has had from childhood till now. Scrapbooking may be infectious :))
Unfortunately, I'm not joining in with WOYWW this week ... I'm a bit under the weather and wouldn't be able to fully participate and leave many comments, and that wouldn't be fair on everyone of you who visits and leaves their lovely comments. I'm off to the hospital next week to undergo an investigative procedure ... fingers crossed all goes well with that.
In the meantime, I wish that you all have a good day and a wonderful week.
Happy crafting,
I've just left you a comment but everything crashed as I left and it now appears to have gone so will try again....
ReplyDeleteYour little book is really stunning Elizabeth. I bet she really loves it.
Hugs,
A x
Missed you to-day at WOYWW Elizabeth, but I hope your feeling a little bit better. Your memory book is fabulous and must had taken a fair bit of time. I think your a woman of many talents. Hope all goes well at the hospital next week. Hugs Rita xx
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all the medical tests...hope they help identify any problem as quickly as possible.
ReplyDeleteYour mini is so cute.
What a great idea to use the toilet paper rolls! Oh...I love the bright colours, the things she was into at the time, the tags that slide in and out!
This is just so cute.
I hope this went into the Pixies Crafty workshop at the time...it looks like a fab way to use up scraps.

Aw very cute book there Elizabeth. I made some of these at Christmas for presents and in fact, mine is still awaiting completion having only painted the rolls! Maybe your post will encourage me to finish it.
ReplyDeleteSorry you are not feeling well. There are alot of colds around and I have a sniffle too. Hope it stays at that!

Wow Elizabeth, that is a beautiful mini album, full of bright joyous colours and lovely embellishments. I'm sure your granddaughter will adore it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your tests and l hope you feel better very soon.
Take care xx
Love your mini album! I still have the one you so sweetly made for me to add photos to. Maybe the most special ones from New Mexico would be good.
ReplyDeleteHow super that your daughter is getting into crafting too - must be in the genes.
Fingers crossed for your hospital appointment - and of course will think of you on Saturday. Wasn't that such a fabulous day at Jan's - the sun shone, we talked and we shopped - perfect!
Hugs, Di xx
What a super album, know the papers you used as I have them too - LOL. Nice to see things have been added which is always good. You can use kitchen rolls too as they seem to be just twice the length so you get two out of one. BJ
ReplyDeleteA beautiful album, treasured I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks for calling by yesterday, appreciate the visit especially as you didn't 'play' this week.

ReplyDeleteHope all these comments fro WOYWW'ers helps make you feel loved. We miss you when you don't post but understand why you felt unable to.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the procedure next week, hope it is not uncomfortable and all goes well.
Love the toilet roll book you have made, it is quite stunning and so neat. I am afraid mine would be a bit on the bulky side but wait ... I remember now ... I have some inners in my flower press - been there months. No time now but will get them out at least.
Lots of Love
Neet xx
What a lovely treasured heirloom your granddtr has...and it looks like she took pretty good care of it, as 7yr olds don't usually. Add'ly it appears you fostered the scrapping interest in her, another good thing. Bet it made both of you feel so good to be able to look back and share this wonderful memory. TFS. Hope you are now feeling much better.
ReplyDeleteOne word: WOW!!! I love this beautiful little treasure and I'm sure it will be kept for many years to come. What a lovely Grannie you are.
