And a very happy What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday to you all. Gosh, but the week has sped by for me ... how has it been for you? I've been busy on the cardmaking front, most of which have been posted throughout the week, but now I'm on to something entirely different.
I've been researching the family history for quite a number of years now, have amassed a huge amount of paper and files on the subject, including birth, marriage and death certificates and census records, and it's all needing sorted out which explains the piles of the stuff on my desk.
The book you can see on my desk has proved to be very useful in suggesting how I can go about creating scrap pages with journaling that includes much of the information I've gleaned in my research.
You can also see my first attempts at crocheting flowers ... they use up very little yarn and crochet up very quickly. Apart from using them on cards and scrap pages, I might also make some to sew on the bed throw I'm crocheting for my little granddaughter - it could like quite pretty with a scattering of flowers over it.

Unfortunately, I haven't managed to visit everybody every week ... Ooh fab, I love Family History and like you have been searching for years amassing files upon files of stuff. I've had a break from it as it was becoming all to consuming but I plan to go and sort it out and definitely want to create with it. ReplyDeleteMy Auntie and Uncle have been tracing their family tree for years and years .. .. and only a few weeks ago (and after all this time of searching) found a cousin living only 20 minutes drive away.
They find it fascinating.
Uncle has recently bought himself a laptop and taught himself how to use it (which at 79 I think is amazing) and he is really enjoying researching on it.
I don't think they will be scrapbooking or journalling anything though. They just have a huge family tree that is expanding slowly.
Well actually there are two trees. One for my Uncle's side of the family (which would be my relatives too) and one for my Auntie's side.

A crocheted bed throw is such a special thing, I'm sure your granddaughter will love it. We have a couple of blankets that my Grandma made, one of which my mam lent to me when my little boy was born and there is one still at my grandmas house which is known as the poorly blanket, lots of lovely rainbow colours and really did make you feel better when you were ill. ReplyDeleteMy Mum has been doing our family tree for so years! She's found out loads but most of the family on my dad's side won't believe it! Ohoo dear, granny was very naughty!! And yes, you are quite right about the Christmas papers, there's so many that can be used any time of the year, and I might not remember that they are in my Christmas box! Then there's men only papers...and fairy papers and...I like to be able to see them all!!!

I really need to do some research on my family tree as my mother's health is getting worse and I know there are many photo's and things I would never know with out her. Very exciting stuff. My Mom is a professional family tree researcher now but when she began, YEARS ago, we had quite a few "found a relative, they're coming for dinner" moments - till a few of them turned out to be branche best pruned :)

I've always said that if I wanted to know my complete family tree, I would run for office and have all my naysayers look it up for me. Okay, I'll bet your way is more fun and fascinating, like unraveling a mystery. The crocheted flowers are quite nifty. I wish I was at least a little handy with yarn, but about all I can do with it is dangle it for the cat.
