I hope you are all enjoying the weekend so far. We've had a sunny day but the temperature has dropped like a stone, no doubt heralding the snow that's been forecast for next week.
I've been popping in and out of the craft room all day, took a couple of hours off to watch Barbara Grey's demos, including a very clever one on how to make a beehive without a stamp - as I love my tiny bee stamp I might try it out some time.
I spent a bit of time tidying up the craft space and then settled down to make this card.
This gorgeous die-cut silhouette was a gift from my lovely friend, Marie-Louise, who makes the most beautiful cards, well worth taking a look - thanks again M-L, love it :) I've been itching to use it forever but just couldn't decide how until the EM brought in the black striped trim. Now, he hasn't taken to haunting the haberdashery department at the local emporium, no, he found the trim in Halfords, the bike and car accessory store ... where else! It's what we used to call 'go-faster' stripes back in the 70s/80s. As I recall it was the fashion back then to customise cars with a trims of various colours and designs ... I didn't know it still was :) I'm told that it comes in various other colours, red, yellow and blue, too. Anyway, it's very easy to attach and I love that the stripes are in two widths.
The layout for the card is fairly simple, the topper is made from the silhouette on an embossed panel of white card matted on to a piece of black leather look paper ... part of a recent candy win from Jozart, so a big thank you again to Jo ... and it is simply adhered to the A5 scalloped-edge card. The sentiment .... Saw it, Loved it, Bought it ... could be the mantra for many a crafter, don't you think :)) ... is stamped onto white card, punched out and matted in the same way as the topper and the card is finished off with dotty ribbon and card candy.
Even the inside got the 'go-faster' treatment :)
Supplies used:
- Kanban A5 scallop-edged card base
- Snippet of white card for embossing with Spellbinders M-Bossabilities Regal, B folder
- Die-cut silhouette, source as mentioned already
- Black leather look paper, source as mentioned already
- Ladybug Crafts, It's Only Words 2 stamp set
- Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad
- Celebrate Ribbon by the Spool and Card Candi - both black polka dot, and the Halfords stripe trim all from stash.
I don't know if Di will ever forgive me but I'm going to skid into the playground, hoping that I don't scrape my knees, to submit this for Pixie's Crafty Snippets Challenge, Number 13 - I think there is a distinct possibility that the red pen will come out for this!
Edited Note: darn, missed it ... the playground gate was locked by the time I'd got myself sorted out last night! I'll just have to submit it this morning so here I am Di, bouncing in nice and early for a new week :)

ReplyDeleteSo striking Elizabeth - those 'go faster' stripes were a great find, your hubby is well trained :) Love the silhouette - and you decorated the inside again really beautifully.
ReplyDeleteSorry you missed the playground last night, it closes at 10pm now to give me a fighting chance of having it all tidied up ready for Sunday mornings.
Have a super day! Di xx

ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteFabulous use of your snippets.
At least you got into the playground good and early on Sunday!!!
It sounds like you have been super busy.
I ended up recording Barbara Grey this time .. .. so pleased I didn't miss her. She will be my treat whilst ironing!!!!
Hope you had a good weekend amongst all that tidying up.
Love Jules xx
Thid is as stunning card, I so love silhouettes xx
ReplyDeleteWOW Elizabeth this is another stunner. That die cut makes me think of the ever so elegant Audrey Hepburn. Love the 'go faster' stripes. As they say 'everything that’s old is new again'. I see those hideously high platform shoes are making a come back too. We saw SO many sprained ankles and broken wrists from people falling because of those when they were in style before.

ReplyDeleteI love silhouettes and this is a superb one, with plenty of white space to show it off properly. By the way, that beehive (skep) that Barbara Gray did is really good fun to do, and very satisfying. Have a good week, and I hope you are feeling better. xx Maggie

ReplyDeleteGo faster stripes indeed! Who would have thought it! Just shows that you can use most things on a card if you have a good design and elements. Very striking card, lovely silhouette and I love that embossing folder too.
