WOYWW - What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday - Week 201

Hello WOYWWers, Followers and Fellow Bloggers,

Perhaps all Wednesdays should be renamed Revelation Day now that so many of us make a point of joining Julia over at the Stamping Ground and reveal all, in the name of crafting, of course :) Now, normally, I'm quite happy to bare all deskwise, but today I can't because there's nothing to see. It's too tidy for words!


Instead, here's what's on my other desk ... isn't she lovely. I've been looking for an old typewriter for some time. Trawled tons of boot sales in the hope of finding one and was beginning to despair. And then, a few Sundays ago, the EM strolled in clutching this little beauty - a Silver-Reed Silverette portable. Admittedly, she was in need of a new ribbon and some TLC but otherwise fit for purpose. And what did himself pay for her ...  a teensy-weensy £4 (US$6.13). The new ribbon cost half that again - what a bargain. I've seen the same make and model on E-bay for more than ten times that. All I have to do now, is practice and remember to hit those keys much harder than I do a computer keyboard ... I'd forgotten just how much pressure is needed but it's so satisfying to hear, once again, the little tinkle of the bell when a line end is reached :)

    Oh, I'd love to find an old typewriter! Good for you. I was wondering if ribbons are available - so glad you mention that.

    I'm not showing my desk either as it's empty. I finished my lace scarf so am showing that off and then a photo of my backyard since we are getting snow!!!

    Ohhhh, you lucky lady...what a little beauty!
    I too trawl the thrift shops and garage sales looking but haven't found the right one yet.
    DH's Dad used one all his life. He became legally blind right after retirement so could still type but found it hard to write a letter etc.
    I never thought to ask for it when they cleaned out his apartment...think it went to the thrift shop!
    You will have so much fun with that little beauty...well done to the EM!

    wow love the typewriter, i never really used one but my mum has tales of when she worked in the typing pool many yearsa ago. 120 words a minute..i cant do that on here (but I can reverse quite well)

    I think the Tidy Monitor has been around quite a few of the desks this week!! But thanks for showing the old typewriter...there is a very evocative sound to them...I remember the newsroom at Tyne tees TV, where I used to work....in the days before computerisation...typewriters going at 60mph!!

    oh wow, that is fab - mum had one just like that! - I'd love one too, ideal for printing out quotes and things for my journal, as my printer on the computer is stuck and needs sorting! Have a great day, Helen. 8

    Oh my word Elizabeth - this picture brings back happy (and some not-so-happy!) memories of learning to type 4 decades ago prior to my secretarial "career"! What a fantastic "blast from the past" - thanks so much for sharing.

    LOL! I remember typing up papers in grade school and high school with one of those. By college I had my own computer. You enjoy it, but I'll stick with my technology - easier to fix my many mistakes!

    Oh WOW Elizabeth, I didn't realise your "new" typewriter is the same as mine. I have tried to get a new ribbon for mine but our local shop doesn't even have typewriters in its catalogue anymore. Seen them on-line but quite expensive there. Anyway just HAD to add my name to the book giveaway too as I LOVE minialbums - where do you get all your giveaway books from or are they ones you have finished with so to speak?     This made me smile to see. I was a typist many years ago on an old MANUAL typewriter, and then we moved to the electric..I typed checks (sometimes 200 a day!). My hubby has an old typewriter in his office, I am going to have to borrow it from time to time. Great idea! Thanks for the kind visit! Winnie#76

    Oh it must be Heaven - to have a tidy desk surface! Ain't gonna happen around here!!! Love that typewriter. Shudder to think I took 2 very vintage electric ones to our Goodwill so many years ago. Now there are times when I could use one. Your EM got a beauty with this one. Looks brand new! Give him a BIG hug and Well done! TFS. Oh yes, another beautiful day in my area...really loving that. Might get a little of the cold moving across country though. Hugs

    what a beauty! did you see my baby the other week?
    thanks for stopping by already - you're bang on re. mum's clothes - dad and i worked out the pic was taken '58/59 when she was 14/15 and he was 16/17 - such babies!
    the family chart is from bazzill's heritage collection - main kit is £20! but i found a starter kit on ebay for under a fiver! hope that helps :)

    How fun, Elizabeth! We are peas in a pod this time, both of us with our clean desks! And I'm an old typist so I'm getting a real charge out of your priceless and beautiful machine! I so remember typing on similar and how hard I used to have to push and that bell, how cool was that bell? The faster the typist, the more often you would hear that ding, ding, ding! I'm so jealous!     LOVE your typewriter! Think how fabulous it'll be for sentiments and scrap booking/journalling.

    Oh that typewriter is lovely, I'm a little jealous! I long for a vintage Singer sewing machine, even though I have no clue how to sew - just for the beauty of the thing!

    Oh what memories you have stirred - I would love one of the old Imperial typewriters that I first learned to type on (giving my age away) - you know with the round keys.What a beautiful gift the EM brought you - such a thoughtful guy.

    Thanks for stopping by this week Elizabeth. I’m sorry it’s taken my so long to make a return visit but just not felt much like spending time on the computer up till now. But I’m on the mend now and ‘ready to party’. Oh, and the bunny is earless, Lol!

    Seeing your new toy reminded me of my first portable and the big old Black jobby that I had before it. That one used to belong to an author and had travelled with him around the world. They must have had bigger baggage allowances back then because it weighed a ton and certainly wasn’t very portable.
